“I get a real sense of achievement from giving back to the profession. That’s why I volunteer.

Volunteering allows me to stay connected to other professionals. It teaches me a lot about networking. It helps me to work with a broader set of people than I usually would and therefore enjoy the benefits of diversity. It gives me a strong sense of connection with the wider profession.

But really, it gives me the greatest satisfaction to know I’m giving back.

Once you build relationships with others in the industry, which is central to volunteering for EA roles, you feel confident to stay in touch. It means you’re building your professional network.

To a certain extent, you can build your personal brand by volunteering, too. I encourage people in my own organisation to volunteer as a form of professional development.

How do you give back through volunteering? There are numerous ways, from helping people personally to helping the profession. Volunteers help the profession and its stakeholders in every way you can imagine.”
