First established more than a century ago, the EA Excellence Awards program has been streamlined and refined for 2023 to better elevate the best in the profession.
From this year, the awards will be conducted as a single program. There will be annual celebrations of local and state finalists in each division with winners progressing to national awards for individuals and projects.
Other key changes include:
- The creation of an emerging tier within Engineer of the Year awards to better recognise engineers, technologists and associates at the beginning of their careers
- Project awards have moved from bi-annual to annual
- Awards are open to international members
- Self-nominated and nominator entries are available.
The redesign is a product of an exhaustive review.
EA National President and Board Chair Nick Fleming says engineering is evolving and the award programs must as well.
“The changes we’ve made to streamline the awards will ensure the categories are consistent, equitable and inclusive,” he said.
“Historically, our winners and finalists have this in common; an outstanding capacity to lead by example and work for the good of the community and the planet.”
