Find out how engineers built 10 bridges in three years as part of the ambitious Edmonton to Gordonvale road infrastructure project.
The Bruce Highway forms a long spine up the coast of Queensland. Planning for an upgrade to a stretch of highway from Edmonton to Gordonvale (E2G), just south of Cairns, began in 2019.
The project, which formed part of a broader Bruce Highway upgrade project that has been touted as the state’s biggest road infrastructure program, has also been nominated for an Australian Construction Achievement Award.
HSA Group, a venture between John Holland, Seymour Whyte and AECOM, worked closely with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to bring the undertaking, worth $481 million, to a close in late 2023.
The project team aimed to enhance safety, capacity and flood resilience, engage local talent where possible, and prioritise sustainable construction outcomes.

The winner of the Australian Construction Achievement Award will be announced on 8 August.
