Lord Thabet StudIEAust is in her final year studying Telecommunications Engineering with Honours at the University of Wollongong. She volunteers as a student ambassador for Engineers Australia, and provides students with access to the organisation’s people and resources to help guide them in their studies and beyond.
“I’m an EA student ambassador at University of Wollongong. I talk to students about engineering and encourage them to apply for free student membership of EA. I also help promote various events such as networking, engineering club gatherings and professional events.
It’s quite eye-opening for students to be exposed to the power of EA, to all of the organisation’s information, resources and people. For example, there’s the free virtual internship that is available to EA members. There is so much on offer.
At university, we support networking events that are particularly valuable because you meet people who are working. They help students develop a clear idea about where you want your degree to take you. It can even open doors.
By volunteering, I feel as if I’m making a difference. If you help manage networking events, for example, you help others to be the best engineer they can be. In that way, you’re helping others to change the world.”
