Queensland’s Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is holding a three-day Engineering, Innovation, and Technology Forum (EIT Forum) from 20 to 22 August at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

It’ll be Queensland’s premier engineering forum with this year’s event set to be the biggest ever, with more than 600 engineers, policymakers, students, academics, contractors and suppliers expected to attend.

TMR Chief Engineer Dennis Walsh said it’s the only event of its kind run by a state road authority.

“It’s been running for 25 years and is important for the state as it creates opportunities for industry professionals from across Queensland to share learnings and new ideas, build strong networks within and between industries, and open up access to new products and services,” he said.

Inspiring experts

The format is designed to encourage professional development and provide inspiration and increased visibility to young Queensland professionals just starting out in their careers, giving them an opportunity to engage with seasoned professionals and industry experts.

Industry professionals share ideas and build networks at Queensland’s premier engineering forum.

“The forum will be an excellent platform for delegates to hear from their peers about new technologies, pioneering research and the many infrastructure projects that keep Queensland at the forefront of road, maritime and rail innovation,” Walsh said.

It will also feature presentations from a range of sectors, facilitate interactive panel discussions and boast five concurrent content streams.

“We are very excited to be showcasing a stellar lineup of speakers, expert panels and immersive sessions,” he said. “There will be a wide variety of content streams and topics covered.”

Delegates will get a closer look at TMR’s driverless car, the ZOE2.

Industry networking

Throughout the three days, attendees will also be able to explore the exhibition hall where more than 40 industry suppliers will host stands and exhibits.

One of the most popular displays – and one of TMR’s proudest achievements – will be TMR’s driverless car, the ZOE2. The Renault prototype is a level four connected and automated research vehicle and part of a pilot program in conjunction with Queensland University of Technology, iMOVE Australia and the Motor Accident Insurance Commission.

Several major sponsors have already come on board for the forum including HDR, AECOM, SAGE Group, BG&E, Puma and AfPA.

More than 40 industry suppliers will host displays in the exhibition hall.

The event will also include a dinner with entertainment and guest speakers and an industry breakfast, both providing important networking opportunities. For more information about both, visit Social Functions.

“Tickets are already on sale and they’re strictly limited so I’d advise booking early,” Walsh said. “It’s set to be a fantastic event with inspirational speakers and many fascinating topics being discussed by respected industry experts. Whatever stage of career you’re at, it’ll be a great chance to continue your professional development.”
