Bringing once siloed information together into a central, accessible platform is just one way this multinational engineering firm has accelerated its digital strategy.
Leading infrastructure firm, AECOM was looking for ways to bring more decision makers into its 3D model environment. “The technical challenges we faced – including the type of hardware you needed to open large models across multiple platforms used across our projects — all resulted in a lot of siloed information,” says AECOM Digital Director Ben May.
“We used to spend a lot of time training people up and upgrading hardware so they could enter into those environments.”
It’s a common problem for companies working with cross-functional teams: how to connect fragmented digital data and to make it more accessible and visible to all.
In 2017, AECOM began working with Revizto and the software was transformative.
“At its core, Revizto is a lightweight application for users to access information in the cloud and collaborate across projects,” says May. In a nutshell, Revizto brings together all BIM (Building Information Modelling) data in a central, easy-to-navigate space, allowing infrastructure professionals to communicate designs to project teams in a 3D cloud environment. “It changed the way we worked for the better.”
Gold standard
Revizto gave AECOM’s key decision makers access to information through real-time issue tracking, 3D collaboration, Virtual Reality and data management – all game-changers, particularly in remote working environments.
“One of our clients described Revizto as the gold standard for project delivery,” says May who notes the software developer has been responsive to their client’s needs. “Some of the latest product updates that Revizto is bringing to the platform are the kinds of things that we’ve been asking for, especially around the areas of cloud coordination.”
Revizto’s time-saving capabilities have allowed engineers to focus on what they do best. “We’re also really interested in the bigger picture of design delivery, and trying to connect a lot of those decisions around how we’re delivering projects — and Revizto plays a big part in that,” says May.
In-the-field adaptability
When AECOM was supporting the design and construction of the purpose-built Centre for National Resilience in response to COVID-19, it was tasked with environmental and planning services in order to secure planning approval, and to provide architectural, landscape, civil, structural and building services design.
With a large number of stakeholders involved, the AECOM team led delivery across three national facilities, working directly with the managing contractor and trade contractors, including modular construction partners.
Revizto helped the design team work collaboratively with the construction team, while engaging all stakeholders to develop the construction drawings in a fast-paced environment.
Utilising Revizto, AECOM also provided onsite-based support to meet the client’s need for short design turnaround times to resolve issues during the construction phase.
Clash workflow upgrade
AECOM is currently transitioning to the Revizto+ platform which has powerful new workflow tools. “That’s changing the way we use the software, adding a whole other layer of what we can do with Revizto,” he says.
The Revizto+ platform now runs clash detection as an automated workflow, which immediately groups results into usable data points that can be filtered by relevant stakeholders.
“We’re embracing the opportunities with their latest platform and how they can benefit us,” May says.
“There’s a huge pipeline of new features that they have now unlocked with the Revizto+ platform, and we’re really interested in seeing how they pan out as they progress with their roadmap.”
