After close to a decade of publication, create is evolving to meet the needs of the future. Damian Ogden CompIEAust, Group Executive, Policy and Public Affairs at Engineers Australia, explains the rationale behind these exciting changes.
Launched in 2015 to shine a light on the work of Australia’s finest engineers, create has become a key member touchpoint for Engineers Australia.
Alongside create digital, it exists to enlighten, drive debate and build pride in the work of all engineers.
But as our members’ needs change, so does create. Today marks a transition. Over the past decade, content consumption trends have moved inexorably online. The pace of change means we need to be more agile and responsive and develop rich multimedia content that a modern audience expects.
And so create has evolved to become a fully-integrated multi-platform member journal.
The print magazine will remain but will become a larger, quarterly edition. The key features will give context, analysis and insight on the big issues.
It will take a visual approach to storytelling, with compelling imagery and graphical devices used to illustrate intriguing and complex topics.
The first edition in this new format will arrive in August, just before Engineers Australia’s Climate Smart Engineering 2024 conference, and will focus on decarbonisation and the energy transition.
create’s digital offering plays a central part in the new ecosystem. Dropping in your inbox every Thursday, it features illustrative multimedia executions, data analyses and conversations with leaders and changemakers.
One thing hasn’t changed: create will continue to promote the excellent work and voices of Australia’s engineers.
We’re also taking the time to update our environmental credentials, replacing single-use plastic sleeves with compostable wrap, saving more than a million plastic wraps going to landfill each year, and reducing paper consumption by more than 60 t per year.
The changes we are making will result in net carbon savings of 100 t per year, delivering on our commitment to supporting a carbon neutral world.
